The unknown bird

Anyone know what this is?

Thanks to Walt for identifying this
as a white tailed kite!

Carly Kisses

Pooh is not a big fan of kisses, Carly's or
otherwise. Carly does like Pooh so much
though that she often can't control herself.

Here I sit broken hearted tried to....

....write a post but could't think of anything interesting to say.
It has begun to turn cold here. Last week we enjoyed a heat wave that kept us in the mid 80's for much of the week. Generally when I get up at 5AM for work, ok 6AM, its in the low to mid 50's and I will admit to turning on the heat now and then, but I have to say that 75F out here is COLD, you know its a dry cold! Next week we will be getting to "normal" temps for this time of year which should be in the mid to high 60's. Even so in the noon hour it can still seem very hot here at times with the sun beating down on you relentlessly.

I think me and Karen both miss rain. Did I mention it was sunny yesterday. And the day before that. And the month before that?? Even on the 3 days it has rained here since July, the rain is gone 15 mins after it ends and you would never know it rained at all.

Another strange thing about Las Vegas is that they will NOT build a school unless it is on a major, high traffic road. If you could imagine every school in Michigan being built on say Telegraph near Eureka, you could imagine how the schools are built here. It is strange because Las Vegas is supposedly built around so called "planned" communities. Doesn't sound like good planning to me.

We had a great time at Aviation Nation. The places I had thought about parking at didn't really work too well because they used different flight patterns than they normally use, butas you can see from the video, we still got a good show.

You can also see that we still enjoy The Fremont Street Experience a great deal. It has a lot to offer to tourists and locals alike. If you can get far enough into the Fremont Street video you will see a cowboy who is, if you ask me, having a bit too much fun......lol

The lost photos

I just found these photos from when
my parents were still here. While driving to
Red Rock Canyon we saw a sign that said
"Watch for Burros". We commented that in our
many trips out here we had never seen one. Then
all of the sudden, here were some burros......

Aviation Nation 2007

Next weekend is the Aviation Nation Air Show
at Nellis AFB. This year the USAF is celebrating
it's 60th year anniversary. I know some good spots
to take pictures and video because I basically spend
all day every day in North Vegas within 10 miles of Nellis AFB
and see the planes take off and land all day long. I've even been
to Nellis, actually a DOE complex within Nellis, for work.
It is a very cool place. So that will be coming up in the
next week on my blog.

The Puppy Park Video

Boat Racing

Ofcourse they were also boat racing again at the
park which is fun to watch. I'll post a video of it later.
It also fun to watch them try to retrieve
their boats when they die in the middle
of the lake!

What a nice day

We spent a few hours today at Sunset Park with the dogs.
It was Carly's first trip out there and she seemed to enjoy it.
There were about 15 other dogs there throughout the time
we were there. We go to the 40 lbs or under part of the park,
though Pooh probably is a wee bit over that. The weather was phenominal. Sunny, as always, 78F. You couldn't get a better days for being at the park.
We noticed that they are starting to set up the Christmas lights for the park.
Christmas will be tough this year. We've only been away from family for 1 Christmas and that was back in 2000. Being that I'm new at my job I have no vacation time yet, and we only get 1 day off for Christmas its not likely we can
return this year. Besides that flights are very expensive that time of year. Hopefully next year we can go "home" for Christmas.......
