Day 3-Part 2

Its been quite a day. Its about 1:11AM EST. Long day of driving, lots of sight seeing. From Colorado this morning we drove through Utah and the Rocky Mountains to Moab and on to Monticello because there was no vacancy in Moab. In Georgetown Colorado we hit a pretty good snow storm. No accumulation, but it was coming down pretty good. Georgetown is a very scenic ski area near Vail Colorado.

This shot is from is from north of Moab Utah on Scenic Way 128. Utah is awesome. The area around Moab is great also. Moab City seemes mostly like a tourist trap, but driving into and out of it is great.

Here is Pooh styling at Copper Mountain Colorado. I don't think I need to say its beautiful there, but it is beautiful there.....Lots of skiing there in the winter. We did see some hickers it seemed to be heading into the busy summer season. Contstruction everywhere. Housing that is. In this picture, the area in fron of Pooh that kinda looks like sand is actually water. I think I over edited it and was too tired to notice the first time around.

Now I'm not sure who was more suprised in this shot, me or the Prarie Dog, if thats what it is. I was taking the flower shots like above near Moab Utah when I heard a noise close to me. I turned with the camera but it wouldnt focus and I thought it was just a stick, until the stick moved. Then I got focus and that was what I saw. He was about 30 feet from me, just posing for shots. I didn't have my 100-400 lens on so this is the best I cold get.

This is somewhere between Vail and Glennwood Colorado.

This is in front of Fisher Tower. More beautiful scenery here. It seems to be getting better and better.

We took over 600 photos today....thank God for digital cameras........
We were driving around Monticello Utah surfing the web from someones wireless network that seems to cover most of the city. Its the same one I'm using now. The hotel, The National 9 Inn, doesn't have internet. Someone does though, so I'm happy. $45 for the night. Cheapest room yet, and you wouldn't know it by looking at it. Very nice, clean and well maintained.

Well this is it for us. We're going to bed now. I'll post some more pics tomorow in the AM. I have a few that you won't believe. I'f I hadn't seen it, I'm not sure I would have believed it. But we not only saw it, I got it on film, so to speak. The picture are not great, but considering we were doing 70 mph and I took them through the window, and I didn't even have the camera on at the time we noticed it, I'm very happy with how they came out. The whole episode lasted only about 10 seconds. I'm too tired to edit and post them tonight, but I will in the morning.

Day 3

Another day another dollar. Guess I can't say that right now since I am un employed right now.....But that will be fixed shortly. Woke up at 5AM(7AM for all you people in the east). This is a picture from around Denver as we drove into it. Denver is very nice, though like many bigger cities, you have to be careful of where you are at and what is going on around you. We got off one exit and thought we had time warpped to 7-mile and the Lodge in Detroit. Not to knock that area, I worked there for years, I just wouldn't call it "safe".

This is the view behind the hotel we are staaying at in Golden Colorado. Very nice view and nice hotel also. I've tried to talk Karen into going to Pike's Peak, but she will have no part of it. Although I've never heard of anyone driving off the side ofthe mountain, visually it is a bit scary driving some 19,000 feet up on a 2 lane dirt road with no guard rails.

Thats it for now. Getting ready to pack up and hit the road again.....

Day 2-Part 2

Here is a couple of shots from Nebraska. Driving east-west through Nebraska makes for a long drive. Its a beautiful state though. Virtually all farmland. It rained for 2-3 hours this morning as we headed east towards Colorado. Karen was suprised at how desolate this part of the country is. She recalled driving to Florida where you were no more than a few miles from a city. Accorging to the GPS at one point we were over 90 miles from any city!

This is a "Modern Art" display at one of the Nebraska rest areas. Though nice, FREE wireless internet, like Iowa has at it's rest areas, is MUCH better! I almost got to meet another of my "clan" members today. He lives in Omaha, but the timing just didn't work out.

Colorado! Very beautiful state. Lots of varying scenery to look at. As we go through the mountains on Friday, I will try to get some good shots of them.

And it is a little windy out here in Colorado. So windy they put these wind socks in the median of the freeway to warn people. As you can see here it is almost maxed out! Very windy. Lots of tumbleweeds blowing over the road. A few of them hit our car.

I love this shot on the left of the train snaking its way up the mountain. I was luck to get it. Karen told me to look. I would have missed it.

This is a Colarado cowgirl out training a horse for something. Maybe breakingit in, I don't know. Hard to see it in this pic but she has another horse, just to her right, that she is leading.

Today we drove from 10AM until about 10PM. We are in Golden Colorado for the night. Time to sleep now........

Day 2

Its about 8AM. Just took the dogs out, and its COLD and windy outside. We are about to start heading south so that should change.

As you can see, gas isn't cheap. We didnt buy gas here, but have been paying about $2.9-3/gallon.

Everyone seems to have wireless internet for free. Every rest stop thus far has had it and most motels seem to also. Very nice.
Driving through Iowa is much like driving through parts of Michigan or Ohio. Farmland as far as the eyes can see. Closer to Nebraska it becomes rolling hills covered in, you guesed it, farmland.

Day 1

We made it to Omaha Nebraska today. What a long drive and we have only started!

This is one of two cement trucks from Michigan that we saw in Iowa. This one was towing a car. They must have sold them and were in the process of delivering them.

This is a picture ofBetty's GPS in action. It works very well although it seems to sometimes get a little confused. Overall we are very impressed with it.

We are averaging about 29 MPG whic I am very happy with.
